Anyone know what this algae might be? About 5 months old post cycle 20 gallon tank. Had ostreopsis dinoflagettes in my tank (using a microscope from my friend), and was wondering is this is either hair algae or a new form of dinos. Nitrates at 5ppm, Alk 7.3, Phos 0.06, Salinity 1.026,
Need some help.. my tank has been completely overrun by algae.. not sure what I need to do. My fish seem fine, but the tank looks atrocious. Any tips on what I need to do? I can’t tell if this is cyano or dino’s.. ordered a microscope to try and identify what this is to take the appropriate steps. Any tips?
I bought a kid’s microscope to help identify the type of algae I have in my aquarium. I’m not sure if it’s diatoms or dinoflagellates. The microscope claims to go up to 1200x magnification, but I’m not sure how accurate that is.
Do you think it would be effective for identifying the algae?
I feel like I am coming out the other side of of double Dino's (Ostreopsis and prorocentrum). Took about 2 weeks (luckily). Small UV for Ostreopsis. Silicate dosing for Protocentrum. Plus dosing neophos and neo nitro with micro after 7, copepods and live phyto.
Advice? I’ve been battling what I’ve assumed to be dinoflagellates up until this point for a few weeks. I’ve had them once before but those looked and acted different than what I have now. And those easier to deal with. I just assumed this was a different strand. I should have taken a picture but I’ll add one tonight. I’m starting to think I have something else. They are brown, stringy and clumpy and long/wavy in the waves. But the weird part is that they don’t really have many bubbles and they are ONLY on my rocks. They won’t touch the substrate. I’ve done a 3 day total blackout three times. They look gone or near gone then in about two days come right back. They multiply very fast. They are soft and scrub right off the rocks. Thoughts?
Mind the dirty tank, I’m fighting Dinos, but I have been waiting months for a pair of these Watanabei Angels. I ended up with two females and hoping the dominant one will change to male 🤞
Changed my rock work after Dino and hair algae outbreak. To lazy to solve. 😜

Forgot to mention but this new algae occurred after I installed a UV sterilizer and did a 3 day blackout for the dinos.

We need to see nitrates and phosphates. Algae and Dino’s can show up if either are bottomed out

Get some amphipods, they'll help eat the algae, whatever kind it is. Could also try lights out for a week or so. Can't tell if you have any corals in there.

Dino battle moving into week 7, very frustrating. Not sure I am going to win.
Can’t hurt! Corrals will be fine. Start feeding the tank foods, Microbacter 7 and get your phosphate and nitrate through the roof! do it slowly over a week or so. I run a very healthy and beautiful tank with nitrates 54+/- and phosphates 4.8+/-. Yes super high...

Won against dinos using a UV sterilizer, no water changes, and increased feedings. That allowed my nutrients to go back up and algae to fight back against the dinos

I’ve searched online on what steps to take but I want to hear from you folks here. Note: My water change is set for Friday ( weekly ) 25%.
