Going on a little over a month and just got out of the uglies. Had a bunch of diatoms and maybe the smallest amount of cyano. Used my other two set ups to jump start this system and it seemed to work. Nutrients have been stable along with all other parameters and I have to say this tank loves to eat magnesium lol. All the lps seem to be loving this system for sure… thanks for looking and happy reefing my friends.

I have all this thick hair algae in my 15 gallon tank for quite some time now. I just wonder if there is a way to actually get rid of it without taking all the rock out of the tank and hitting it with hydrogen peroxide. Doing that may disrupt the cycle in the tank and cause another ammonia spike and who knows what else.

Just rocked a good water change after a Chemiclean treatment. Didn’t put a dent in what’s been growing on my sand bed. I’ve read that Chemiclean doesn’t work against certain Cyano strains. Gonna do my best to keep nutrients stable and wait the course. All corals are super happy and showing growth so I’m not crazy concerned.

Does this look like algae bloom, or detritus? My tank is relatively new (few months) and it has been having a bit of a fishy smell lately. The skimmer if filling with nastiness every day or two. Nitrate is 15-20 and my phosphate is 0 (trying to bring it up slowly with Neo Phos). Thanks for the help.

Okay I need to use some GFO cuz my phosphates are a tad high and I’m getting a green hair algae outbreak. I asked deep dive to analyze my tank size (47 gal) and recent phosphate parameters test (0.2 ppm). it recommended I use 300g and that seems like an extremely high amount. I’m scared to crash my system. A BRS video says 1 Tbsp per 4 gallons and I’m thinking of even doing half that just to start gradually. Advice for GFO first timer?

Do you guys think this is cyano ?

I did a round of Chemiclean and did the water change yesterday along with a lot of manual cleaning. This is what it looks like this afternoon so I started another cycle of chemiclean. It’s growing in sort of a slime texture to the point that the thicker sections I could tweeze out the globs from the sand. It also was stringy with air bubbles in some parts.
