Description
A stocky, deep-bodied wrasse banded in alternating orange-red and blue-white bars, with prominent protruding canines that turn bright blue with age. Shy and reclusive when small, it becomes a bold, confident centerpiece fish that is generally tolerant of similarly sized robust tankmates but should not be housed with other tuskfish in typical aquaria. Best in a large FOWLR system with abundant rockwork, caves and open swimming lanes; Australian-collected specimens acclimate far better than net-shy imports from other regions.

These fish prefer a well-decorated tank with plenty of hiding spots. They need a lot of swimming space and do best in a tank with live rock for grazing.
Behavior
Harlequin Tusks are semi-aggressive fish. They are generally peaceful towards other species but can be territorial and aggressive towards their own kind. They are also known to use their large teeth to rearrange objects in the tank or dig in the substrate.
