Description
A streamlined surgeonfish that transforms dramatically with age: juveniles are bright yellow or half-black mimics of Centropyge dwarf angelfish, while adults turn chocolate-brown to purplish-black with an orange patch behind the gill, dark-edged face and yellow-accented, lyre-shaped tail. It is an active, semi-aggressive grazer that needs long open swimming lanes plus rockwork for retreat, and it should be the only tang of similar shape in most systems and never housed with the dwarf angels it mimics. Reef safe and a useful algae eater, though it may bump frags or unsecured clams, and like all tangs it is prone to ich, so quarantine, strong flow and high oxygen are essential.

Mimic Tangs require a large tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding spots. They prefer a well-lit tank with strong water movement.
Behavior
Mimic Tangs are active swimmers and will spend most of their time exploring their surroundings. They can be territorial with other Tangs and similar species.
