My 75 gallon is tempered glass. Is there a realistic way to add a sump in the cabinet below without drilling?

There are people who have HOB siphoned water to a sump (you can find YT videos). When I started my tank everyone at my LFS recommended against this because if for any reason your siphon is broken. Your return pump will keep pumping to the display and overflow your tank. And then also your return pump will be running dry which can damage the pump. Id be curious if anyone on ReefBay has a HOB siphoned tank.

You can mitigate this. If you position the return pump higher (not on the bottom of the sump, let's say suction cupped halfway or laying on some egg crates) correctly, you can have it so even when the return is running dry, it won't overflow the tank. (So the minimum water line that your sump can reach won't exceed the top of your display tank). Not sure how to stop the pump from running dry though.

Oo that is smart with the return. ATOs have a water level shut off. If you can somehow connect a custom one to a power strip you’ll be set haha

Expensive fix- if you have an Apex with a power strip and water level monitor, you could write a script to shut off power to the pump when the water level drops below a certain point. Can’t think of any other way to do this.
