Never had diatoms this bad. What are the white caps on the top of the rocks? It's like the only spot algae refused to grow. Lighting is set as low as possible (turned blue off to take pictures). I have new chaeto coming Friday along with apocalypse pods and phytoplankton. There are little air bubbles on the glass from the algae. Totally weird! I did a hydrogen mix dip that killed my chaeto before I was going to add it. I want to buy shrimp in person but have to travel 50+ miles.

Do you have a clean up crew? I now have an Urchin, conch, and emerald crab and I have one little patch of red algae they leave alone. I did have a surprise copepod out break and that seemed to be good for the tank as well.

I have copepods coming tomorrow along with chaeto. The red stuff is acid rain with gold flakes. It's beautiful and has grown already since a week or 2 ago when I bought it. I can't take a photo that will do it justice. I also have phytoplankton coming and only seeded the tank once with Fritz 9, a chunk of live rock and 2" live sand. The rest is just dry rock.

Diatoms always seem to take over right at the start but they fade out soon enough once the cycle settles. The white caps on the rocks are probably just areas that stayed dry or got less contact with nutrients so nothingโ€™s grown there yet. That blue damsel looks like a total boss in there! Once

Thank you! I cleaned the front glass a little a couple days ago during a water change. I put copepods and a huge wad of clean chaeto. I think they're already doing their job.
