Looks like you’re doing it right with the separate tub and bio-media. Just make sure to rinse well and neutralize any leftover bleach before reusing those rocks. It’s a bit of work but the extra peace of mind with pest-free rock is so worth it!
Thanks, I'll leave them in the bleach solution for about 36 hours after which I will rinse them with a power washer and then leave them to dry in the sun. After they dry I put them in a separate tub with RO/DI and seachem prime that I will change daily for 3-4 days. Then I will put them in the new tank with a few already established rocks and let them be for a week. After a week I plan on adding a few fish and easy corals I have laying around. Edit: I'm also bleaching the media haha, all of the rock and media was dry before. I had to bleach them so they wouldn't leach out phosphates and nitrates like crazy in the tank
Looks like you’re setting yourself up for a super clean start! I’ve never tried bleaching rock yet but curious to see how it goes for you and how long you end up curing it before it’s tank ready.
I won't be curing it, I'll put it straight in the tank (after dechlorinating) with a few already established rocks and hope for the best. I'll also add some aquaforest life source and wait for a week or two before adding a few fish. It should be alright, used some tank water and established rocks, they will practically cure in the tank
Sounds like a good plan! Using established rock and tank water should give you a nice bacteria boost. Keep us posted on how it goes!
Thanks 👍, I will. It will be a journey, the tank is quite big 🤭

That’s a lot of rock! What’s the process? I’ve always been scared to use bleach on anything reef related haha
Soak them in 1:10 bleach solution for at least 24h with a pump for flow, rinse them with a power washer after which you leave them in the sun to dry and then put them in a separate container with RO/DI water and some kind of dechlorinator, ike seachem prime. Change water daily and test for chlorine and po4 until no chlorine is left and po4 doesnt rise anymore.
