Hey guys, im a month in with my first nano (80l) and hitting a bit of trouble which id love some advice on.

Currently no fish, but added 4 trochus snails 10 days ago to start getting some life in there once cycle was complete.

My LFS recommended adding 2 bags of copepods and 2ml of phytoplankton once a week whilst we don't have fish to (i think) speed up algae growth.

For the last 5/6 days the water has looked a bit cloudy and nitrates have dropped from 18 to around 2 or 3. Chat GPT is saying it could be a bacterial bloom.

2 of my snails have been sitting at the waterline for a week or so, but are moving occasionally and I managed to target feed them both some Nori. The other 2 seem quite happy in the tank grazing the rockwork and glass (although I haven't seen them in a few days). I have an air stone running to add oxygen to the water as I've read that's a good idea. Is there anything else I can do? I have my first 2 fish on order and picking them up on friday (2 clowns), but want to be sure that it is safe to add them in. Ammonia and nitrite are both zero and pH is normal. Thanks for any advice

Sounds like classic bacterial bloom. Keep flow up and no big water changes yet. Snails might be stressed but should bounce back. How’s your alk and!

Definitely a bacterial bloom. As long as you have a skimmer on, there's nothing to worry. Make sure to keep the flow inside the tank keep running. The fish should be fine to add in too as long as the ammonia is 0, they'll make the nitrification cycle goes on.

Cloudy water and low nitrates sounds like classic bacteria bloom. Keep flow steady and skimmer on. Trochus snails usually chill but if they’re

Be patient!!! Don’t react too fast Takes weeks - months to balance it out

I’m pretty sure I’m dealing with the same thing, seeing patches of green hair algea and white fuzz (I’m thinking pre GHA or dye off) on the glass and rocks. Nitrates aren’t even showing up on my test and ammonia is at 0.2 but all livestock are looking happy and normal. My plan is to ride it out for a week or so and see what happens
