Start slowly introducing hermits, depending on the size of your aquarium, if it’s like a nano, just get 1-2 for now and get an astrea snail or two (again if it’s a nano) for the rocks and glass. Nassarius apparently eat algae in the sand (according to my LFS) yet I’ve never seen any of mine do that they prefer just to munch on food stuck in the sand and bottom of the rocks

It’s a 55 gall and I have a sand sifting star fish

Seems a bit early only two weeks in for a sandsifting star but he should take care of that just by him running over and turning over the sand. But yeah start getting some hermits, I prefer scarlets but blue legs work too. I have a vendetta against red legs as one of mine went rogue and killed 3 turbo snails in one night. Get around 3-4 hermits and a couple astrea snails for now.

Ok thank you! Ya it’s pretty early to add him in, the reason I did is because he was in my old tank that I tore down, so I didn’t have anywhere to put him but I’m working on getting some shrimp to feed him so he can make it with a lack of food in the tanks sand

No problem, when you’re feeding try to use a turkey baster or a pipette to almost inject some of whatever you’re feeding to the sand bed so you know for sure there is some food getting in there

Hey man congrats on the new setup! That yellow watchman goby is already looking comfy in the sand. Diatoms are super common in young tanks like yours, especially with that sandy substrate and fresh rock. Definitely normal to see a brown film at this point. I’d say keep up with regular low flow water changes and maybe add some clean up crew like hermits or snails if you haven’t yet. They’ll munch on that brown stuff like it’s candy. Also, double check your lighting duration. Sometimes cutting it back a little helps with algae control early on. What kind of light are you running? Got

Thank you! I’m running 2 Eacho tech marine lights G5 I think for 6 hours a day and two wave pumps on opposite sides of the tank and their set on random flow for soft corals

Nice setup! Six hours sounds perfect for now. Random flow with two pumps is great for soft corals too. Just keep
