Description
A stocky, cryptically patterned combtooth blenny, olive to mottled brown with dark bars and scattered pale spots, a fringed head crest, and expressive perched-on-rock posture; it can darken or lighten rapidly to match its surroundings. It spends the day scraping film algae and detritus from rock, glass, and sand, making it a peaceful and useful grazer, though it becomes territorial toward other blennies, gobies, and similarly shaped bottom dwellers. Keep one per tank in a mature system with plenty of live rock and established algae growth, supplement with nori and herbivore foods once the tank is grazed clean, and use a tight-fitting lid as it is an accomplished jumper.

The Lawnmower Blenny prefers a tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. It requires good water conditions with stable temperatures. It is a saltwater fish and needs a specific gravity between 1.020 and 1.025.
Behavior
The Lawnmower Blenny is a peaceful fish that spends most of its time on the bottom of the tank, perched on rocks or the substrate. It is known for its ability to blend into its surroundings and can change its color to match the environment. It is a solitary creature and prefers to be alone or with one other of its kind.

Not the most colorful fish, but definitely one of the funniest. They have grumpy looking faces and fat bellies that make you laugh. Mine doesn’t really go after longer hair algae, but loves to eat algae on the glass of the tank and eat from the nori feeder. Super personable and lots of fun in a small package!

An almost must-have for a tank. They're great at keeping algae (somewhat) under control. If your tank blooms like mine does, keep an eye out for "kiss" marks on your glass; I laugh every time I see them. Though mileage may vary, my Lawnmower Blenny is very active and is constantly darting I and out of its hiding spots.

Bought this fish for algae management when I had a smaller tank. It did an excellent job in the beginning but once it realized it got a free delivery of Mysis and nori everyday it started slacking on its duties. Still a great fish to have in the tank and still serves a purpose. They have a funny personality as well.

Is mostly a scavenger in my tank as he hides anytime I feed. Very good at eliminating algae.

The best algae eater I’ve ever purchased. Fish primarily eats algae in the tank and is usually the last to get any food when the tank is fed primarily due to him being extremely shy. Anytime someone walks into the room he hides even after months of having him.
