Description

The Purple Tang, also known as the Yellowtail Sailfin Tang, Blue Surgeonfish, or the Blue Caribbean Tang, is a vibrant, deep purple colored fish with a yellow tail, found mainly in the Red Sea. This fish is popular among aquarists due to its striking color and active nature.

Reef Safe?

Yes, Purple Tangs are considered reef safe but may nip at large-polyped stony corals and soft coral polyps.

Environment

This species prefers a well-lit tank with plenty of hiding spots and live rock for grazing. They thrive in water temperatures between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

Behavior

Purple Tangs are active swimmers and need plenty of space to move around. They are known to be territorial and can exhibit aggressive behavior towards other tangs and surgeonfish.
