Description
Pistol Shrimp are fascinating marine invertebrates known for their unique ability to produce a loud snapping sound with their specialized claw. This sound is used for communication, hunting, and defense. They are often found in symbiotic relationships with gobies, where the shrimp provides a safe burrow and the goby offers protection.

I have a Tiger Pistol paired with a YWG and they’re fascinating and live in a burrow that stretches around the entire tank. Really unique addition to tanks, but you may not often see them depending on burrow location. Mine has little problems walking around during feeding. Make sure that all hardscape is placed on the bottom of the tank prior to the addition of sand so it does not shift. These little dudes can move a lot of sand really fast if they want. Mine has different types of “snaps” depending on the purpose; when he’s scared it’s about the same sound as if someone snapped their fingers very loudly. Can be startling at times but is infrequent. Pros: great at turning over sandbed, awesome pairing with gobies. Eats whatever Cons: can potentially disturb rockwork and reorganize the tank, may not be visible very often Availability: moderate; some places will have and some won’t *PRO TIP* make a “pilot hole” where you’d ideally like the shrimp to begin digging and release the shrimp near this hole
