光を低めに保ってコケを避けたいけど、水槽の見た目も良くしたいと考えてます。

見た目だけを気にするなら、家にいる時間に1～2時間マックスで光を点けるだけでいいと思います。水槽に光合成するものがないなら、わざわざ光を点けておく意味ないですよ。
If you're looking for just the looks, I would only run the light while you're home for an hour or two max. There's no sense in running the light if you dont have anything photosynthetic in the tank.
