🌎🐠 Fijne World Reef Day! 🪸
Elke koraal in mijn rif-aquarium begon als een klein stekje van een levend rif ergens ter wereld. Vandaag is dit aquarium thuis voor meer dan 100 verschillende koralen, vissen, zeesterren, zeekomkommers, heremietkreeften, garnalen en talloze andere rifbewoners.
Koraalriffen beslaan minder dan 1% van de oceaanbodem, maar ze ondersteunen bijna 25% van al het mariene leven. Ze beschermen kustlijnen, zorgen voor voedsel en inkomsten voor miljoenen mensen en vormen enkele van de meest biodiverse ecosystemen op aarde.

Every coral in my reef tank started as a tiny fragment of a living reef somewhere in the world. Today, this aquarium is home to more than 100 different corals, fish, starfish, sea urchins, hermit crabs, shrimp, and countless other reef inhabitants.
Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet they support nearly 25% of all marine life. They protect coastlines, provide food and livelihoods for millions of people, and create some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.

As reefs face threats from warming oceans, pollution, and habitat loss, reef aquariums can play an important role in conservation.
