Those zoas look stressed did u check water params?!

User Avatar @bucrob 37d

What’s the salinity? Water flow? In my experience zoas need medium flow to get detritus blown out from them

It seems like an alveopora…it could have something to do with the way you glued it or maybe it’s just the angle on this photo but probably some sort of bacteria or maybe too much flow and light?

I’ve moved, dipped it last night in case and going to see how she does. Thank you

For some reason I also struggle with gonis & alveopora but not with the hardest acros 😂

Oh man I’ve dealt with zoa struggles too! That dulling and polyp closure definitely screams stress. Flow could be a big factor like @bucrob said. Zoas love a bit of movement to keep stuff from settling in their mouths but not a strong blast. Also make sure your water params are rock solidalk, calcium, and magnesium swings tend to mess with them fast. I’ve noticed lighting shifts can cause zoas to pull back too. Did you recently change bulbs or move the coral to a different spot in the tank? Placement matters so much with those guys especially near other corals that might sting or

I would have to agree with @Joan, after looking at it again, it does seem to be an alveopora rather than a zoa. It doesn’t have the string like structures the heads attach to and rather has that kind of smooth structure with small holes for heads to pop out. It also has 12 little tentacles which is the main identifier of alveopora corals. Alveopora need pretty decent lighting, in my experience around 120-150 par are where mine are happy. They can really handle any flow that is indirect in my opinion, as long as they aren’t getting directly blasted and aren’t getting 0 movement

Agreed! Mine gets quite some flow and it seems to be happy. It has also recovered from acros falling on top a couple times 😅
