Question:

What are some of the problems that you face when introducing new coral frags to your system(s)?

Just trying to learn from other’s experiences.

Just remember from my mistake When you do water changes Test water Then adjust water going in to match water as well as temp to keep stress to corals to a minimum

I recently had a diatom bloom because I didn’t realize my DI resin was exhausted. I was using silica-filled water for top-offs and water changes, which led to a spike in my phosphates and stress for my corals.

That they come on a large plug that are extremely hard to remove/reduce in size without breaking/damaging the coral frag. Especially in smaller tanks the plug can seam very big and in-natural..so I want to remove as much as possible.

I’d recommend doing an iodine dip and visually examining with a flashlight. It’s kinda hard to know what is exactly is a pest when new. But if its a hard coral I’d scrape anything you see off with a razor blade when possible. Also when in your tank keep a close eye on it for the next 7 days. You may see a pest like aptasia pop up. You do have time to remove if you notice it quickly enough.
