Could be a few things. I had a couple of mine slowly shrink over time. Turned out I wasn’t giving them enough par/light intensity. I started lights low like everyone suggested but I never worked on slowly upping the par overtime

I’ve puttied them down now so can’t change them, they seemed to be fine for 3+ months

I noticed mine prefer slightly higher nitrate and phos. Yours should be OK. How are the other parameters? Calc, mag, alk?

Don’t check anything other than nitrate and phosphate, going to get an Alk test at somepoint

Alk shouldn’t drastically affect zoas like that. They are a soft coral, I’ve kept zoas in a alk of 5.8 before and they were fine

I had the same issue with certain Zoas in my tank. I’ve noticed that some types don’t mind being at the bottom of the tank, and I’ve had others fade out at the bottom. I also think that some other soft corals over take the space and block their light. I’ve had best luck with them at mid tank, and nutrient rich water.

Zoas can be picky with light, flow and nutrients. IME most tend to prefer a little "dirtier" water. Lighting and flow can be different for each one. They're also susceptible to a few hitchhiker predators like spiders, snails, stars etc. I've even seen bigger aphipods munching already stressed polyps at night. Susceptible to a few diseases also, zoa pox and melting. The more expensive the more prone to melting is how they've always been. I've done iodine dips, lugls, peroxide etc over the years. Most of the time to no effect. Best you can do is pry it up, the cement or glue usually pops off. Move it to lower flow and keep any algae off of it with a baster. Might come back , might not. I have 5 very tiny ones right now on a rock that the colony was completely gone from for probably 5 years. Zoas are weird.

I feel they either are melting or getting extremely irritated by amphipods and maybe both
