Bypass the ugly phase? Conducting an experiment on my new build. In hopes of heading off the ugly phase or an alge bloom i am keeping my alk up and dosing with Coralline alge. Hopes that it takes hold instead of any other alge. What do you think? Already have some starting on this rock.

It can be done, I believe BRS did an experiment with multiple tanks, the one that “skipped” the ugly phase was dosed with pods, microbacter7 and other things I can’t remember but pretty much you have to increase your microbiome from the start which is really the only way to “skip” the ugly phase

Do you have a link? I've not seen that video.

This is a great video. Thanks for sharing. Big takeaway for me is how important copepods are.

I watched those videos like 20x, it’s all I talk about when people are starting up tanks dealing with the ugly phase, copepods are extremely beneficial

The whole series/experiment is really interesting. I met the guy doing the genetic testing at reef show. He uses PCR testing. Trying to find alge barn now. ;)

If I am not mistaken; BRS also recommends an elevated magnesium parameter around 1450. Magnesium will be the larger factor for algae. Consider a PNS bacteria instead of Microbacter7. In. My experience with PNS is much better at removing waste compared to Microbacter7.

This?

Yes indeed.

I picked up pns deepcycle. Broadcast 5ml and inject 10ml into sand bed.

Great choice!
