Using the cultivating kit I purchased from Reef by Steele, I can now turn 1 16 ounce bottle of phytoplankton into 7 bottles. You do the math $19 for one end up with 7 bottles. Take one of the 7 bottles start a new culture. It will last in the refrigerator for about two weeks as long as you shake the bottle gently daily and burp it. Feed your copepods and your corals. Look at that beautiful dark green phyto.

4 weeks in the refrigerator no problem for a not fully grown culture 😉.

Well, I probably should’ve clarified my two weeks comment. Yeah it might last in the refrigerator for four weeks if you’re just feeding it, but I wouldn’t leave it in there for longer than two weeks if you’re going to re-cultivate it. This last batch the bottle was in the refrigerator for 17 days, but I wouldn’t stretch it out that far normally.

Phyto math wins 👌

I bought the same kit. First culture crashed. What and how are you cleaning the container? I think that's where my issue was

First I wash the jug with RODI water, then I use 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, swish it all around inside the jug pouring out the excess and let it evaporate out. Then I fill the bottle to the 16oz fill line add 1 ml of disinfecting bleach along with the F2 fertilizer adding air to a medium roll overnight, then add .072 grams of citric acid for approx 2 hour until the dip stick chlorine test strip shows zero bleach. Add the phyto culture, then place in front of bright light for 16 hours and test after 4-5 days to monitor nitrate. Harvest just before the nitrate in exhausted. Should be a deep green color.
