Anyone know what this is? It’s been spreading the past few days. I got this piece of live rock from my LFS and there was also a little red spot but kind of faint. The last few days it has spread and gotten a deeper maroon color. Any ideas what it is? It’s localized to this rock. Thanks

Looks like cyano.If you hit it with a blast of water and it comes off easily then it’s Cyano

Thank you both for the insight. I’ll give that a try tomorrow and see if that’s the case. That rock has been in the tank about 2 months and it just started growing/ expanding the past few days.

Yeah definitely want to get dealt with now. Cyanobacteria is a nightmare once it really takes off

If I hit it with a blast of water and it does come off easily like cyano, do I risk spreading it in the tank? It’s only contained to this area. For what it’s worth ChatGBT thinks it’s a sponge lol. But also suggests hitting it with some water as well to confirm.

I personally would just pull that piece out of the water. Bring it over to your sink with a toothbrush and scrub it real quick. If it comes off it's sign up. If it starts tearing it's a sponge. I don't think a few seconds under tap water is going to harm that much for the whole tank, but at least get rid of that

Make sure your flow in you tank is good, cyano lives in dead spots that don’t get much flow.
