Description
A brilliant lemon-yellow angelfish with vivid blue lips, a black spot on the forehead, a fainter dark blotch behind each gill cover, and a broad black margin on the anal fin, reaching about 10 inches. It is shy on arrival and needs a large, mature tank with heavy live rock cover and open swimming room along the front, but becomes a bold, territorial mid-water fish that should be the only angel in the system. Feeding is the real hurdle: wild adults live on sponges and tunicates, so long-term success depends on sponge-based frozen angel rations offered several times daily alongside algae and meaty foods.
Reef Safe
No
Environment
Requires a mature saltwater aquarium with stable water quality, abundant live rock for grazing and shelter, open swimming space, and plenty of hiding places. Best kept in tropical marine conditions with excellent filtration and low stress.
Behavior
Generally active and somewhat shy at first, but becomes more confident once established. It may nip at sessile invertebrates and can become territorial toward other angelfish or similarly shaped fish.
