Description
A deepwater South African angelfish patterned with bold black-and-gold tiger striping over a pale body, with yellow-edged fins and a dark caudal band. It is a hardy but shy, semi-aggressive angel once acclimated, needing a mature 150+ gallon tank with abundant rockwork and caves, stable cool-to-temperate tropical conditions, and a single specimen per system (no other Apolemichthys). Expect it to nip clam mantles, LPS, soft corals and sponges, so it is best kept in a fish-only or FOWLR display with a varied diet including sponge-based angelfish preparations.
Reef Safe
No
Environment
Requires a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Prefers stable water conditions with a temperature range of 72-78°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
Behavior
Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish.
