This is my diy overflow/sump system because the overflow boxes are kinda expensive πŸ˜… I’m using a generic pond pump with 1in pvc and a sponge to prevent fish from falling in, I rinse and change the sponge daily, and I used fragging cement to seal it off because pvc sealant takes forever to cure

What works works. Same concept as the overflow boxes, just less clean looking.

Indeed it does, tho I hope to either get an overflow box eventually or hang it over the back and hide it with rock, ofc because of the tangs and lionfish the 75gal definitely is no permanent option

Nice. How is the overflow working? You are pumping it into your sump? Or it’s just a siphon?

I had to use a hose to manually suck air out of the pvc and water into it, after that gravity pretty much does its job pulling water down into the bottom and flowing into the sump, then the pump just pumps it back into the tank

Cool. Have you tested power going out? To prevent flooding. Maybe making a hole below the water line to kill siphon?

Yes I have actually! Not only that but when I flip the switch on the extension cord, water backflows back into the sump via the hose coming from the pump, I am looking into some sort of battery backup however just to be extra safe

Perfect. I also have a hole on my return pump to cut back flow when power off. It’s the small things that make reefers excited haha!
