I'm getting a thin green film/algae layer over the sand bed, particularly toward the back and sides.

Doesn’t look bad pretty normal. I would suggest to get an invert to stir the sand up my sand sifting star does magic in my tank I haven’t had algae on the sand except in one spot since I got him.
