Looks more like a molt to me. Tiny hitchhiker crabs in nanos love disappearing for a bit and the empty shell can totally look like a dead hermit at first glance!

I cant find its shell anywhere that's the odd thing. So im hoping it's just chilling somewhere, it does have other shells in the tank incase it needed a new one, but they havent been touched either

Yeah that still sounds pretty normal honestly. They can ditch a shell and hole up somewhere super random for a bit after molting. If it has spare
