Hammers don’t split, they branch out or release a polyp. I’m not sure what that is but it’s likely not “splitting” especially if it’s a branching hammer

So I asked Grok (AI) and she said that this is completely normal, she said that it’s happy and healthy and just extending its polyps to feed. Not sure but I also posted on R2R and will see what they say. Will keep you all posted.

To me it looks like large bubble algae. Never seen it that size though. Interested if you find out what it is too.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe it got to that size because it's coated in the hammers slime coat making it a little tougher while being agitated by the heads at all times
