Description
A striking Western Indian Ocean angelfish with a dark brown-to-black body crossed by numerous white vertical bars, fine electric-blue lines on the face and gill cover, a dark 'earspot' behind the head, and a golden-yellow tail edged in blue. It is a bold, semi-aggressive large angel that needs a spacious, mature aquarium with abundant live rock for grazing and caves for retreat, and it should generally be kept one to a tank away from other large angels. Adults readily nip clam mantles, LPS/SPS corals, soft corals and tubeworms, so it is best housed in a fish-only or lightly stocked FOWLR system with excellent water quality and strong filtration.
Reef Safe
No
Environment
Requires a large, stable marine aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter, open swimming space, excellent filtration, strong water quality, and stable reef-like parameters.
Behavior
Active and territorial, especially as it matures. It may bully smaller or more passive tankmates and should be housed with other robust species.
