Description
A stocky, disc-shaped damsel with a bright white body crossed by four bold vertical black bars and a black-marked tail, making it one of the most recognizable small reef fish in the trade. It is extremely hardy and undemanding, but grows steadily bolder and territorial with age, defending a rockwork territory and harassing peaceful or newly added tankmates. Best kept singly or as a small group added simultaneously in a mature tank with abundant branching rock, alongside similarly assertive fish; it will not bother corals but may pick at very small benthic crustaceans.
Reef Safe
Yes
Environment
Requires a well-maintained aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing. Prefers water temperatures between 72-78°F, pH levels of 8.1-8.4, and specific gravity of 1.020-1.025.
Behavior
Active and territorial, often establishing dominance in its area of the tank. It may chase away other fish from its territory.
