What would suck your alkalinity down to zero. And what is is the ideal alkalinity for a reef tank?

Alk zero? I don't think that's possible. Do you mean nitrate or phosphate?

User Avatar @DHood10 98d

I thought that too but alkaline kept coming up as zero on my test strips unless I got bad strips. I threw in some dissolved baking soda that brought it up to about 80. 80 my tank's been going a little haywired the last 2 weeks

Test strips are notoriously inaccurate. Better get your fish shop to test or order a more accurate RedSea or Salifert kit online if you don’t have a local place.

I'll have to pick up a kit. I usually just keep the test strips for a quick glance. I've never really had problems with KH so I never really pay attention to it

I’d highly recommend the Hanna Alk tester. Super simple and accurate. It’s a digital reader too
