How do I get rid of this ugly brown film on the surface of my water, everyone says surface agitation but that has not worked for me.
Not the best photo, but like you can see it.

Surface skimmer or run the total water volume slightly less if this is to cause it to skim more.

The Aquatop cubes (including mine) have this issue alot. There's a plastic guard that you can put on the on the overflow but I don't like this option as it raises display wayer level and lowers it in the return. Or you can add a surface skimmer. This is the solution I will be taking. Although it is one more component to clean as it sucks up the excess film and protiens
