Description

The African coris wrasse is a colorful, active wrasse that is often sold under this common name but is typically the Red Coris Wrasse in the juvenile stage. Juveniles are bright red to orange with white and black markings, while adults develop greener to bluish coloration with mottling and a more robust body. It is an energetic sand-sleeping fish that needs ample swimming room and a deep sandy substrate.

Environment

Requires a large marine aquarium with a tight-fitting lid, plenty of open swimming space, stable water quality, and a deep soft sand bed for burrowing. Provide rockwork for exploration and maintain typical reef conditions with tropical temperatures and good filtration.

Behavior

Very active and constantly forages through rockwork and substrate. It buries itself in sand to sleep or when stressed and may rearrange substrate and small rocks while searching for food.

What You Feed: Mysis and pellet food

Overall a great fish to have in the tank, mine is very peaceful however he loves to knock over/destroy anything not bolted down.

What You Feed: PE Mysis

Great utility fish! This is the second one I’ve had and both have been model citizens. Keeps around the center/bottom of the water column, swimming in and out of the rock. Stays busy hunting for pests, doesn’t harm any of the corals and hasn’t shown any signs of aggression.

Temperament: Peaceful

Difficulty: Easy
