Description

The Bluebanded Goby is a small, colorful marine goby recognized for its orange to reddish body marked with electric blue horizontal bands. It is a bottom-oriented fish that spends much of its time perched on rockwork and is best suited for mature nano and reef aquariums with plenty of hiding places.

Reef Safe

Yes

Environment

Requires stable marine water conditions, a mature aquarium with live rock, sandy areas or crevices for shelter, gentle to moderate flow, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent jumping. Typical reef parameters with temperature around 72-78 F, salinity 1.023-1.025, and low ammonia and nitrite are important.

Behavior

Generally stays near the bottom or perched on rocks, often hovering short distances. It is shy at first, may hide frequently, and does best in a peaceful aquarium. Can be territorial toward similar gobies in smaller tanks.

Turned my sand bed white in just a few days. Reason for 4 stars is that these guys make a MESS!

This fish was always pretty active in my tank and it could always be seen sifting sand. Was out almost all of the time in the bottom of my tank. Cool looking fish. Just make sure it is getting enough food to the bottom so it has plenty to eat.

I got this fish wanting something that wouldn’t mess with my diamond goby but could pick up some of the weight of turning the sand over because my diamond goby was only getting one side of the tank. It worked out pretty well and I’ve learned to love the little guy. They swim around and are much more active than watchman gobies. Would buy again.
