Description
The Moorish Idol is a striking, colorful saltwater fish known for its unique, disk-like shape, extended dorsal fin, and vibrant bands of black, white, and yellow. They are often recognized from their appearance in popular culture, such as the character "Gill" from Pixar's "Finding Nemo".
Reef Safe
Moorish Idols are considered reef safe but may nip at soft corals and stony polyp corals.
Environment
These fish prefer a well-lit tank with plenty of open swimming space, as well as some rocky areas for hiding. The tank should have a strong current to mimic their natural habitat.
Behavior
Moorish Idols are active swimmers and are known to be relatively peaceful but can be territorial with their own kind. They can be kept singularly or in large groups, but pairs or small groups often result in aggression.
