Description
A small, semi-translucent cardinalfish with a pearly-tan body marked by a reddish-brown midlateral stripe and a second stripe along the back, plus a dark spot at the caudal base. It is a shy, nocturnal, hovering fish that stays near overhangs, rockwork, and branching corals by day and becomes active at dusk, doing best in groups of three or more in a calm tank with peaceful tankmates. Completely coral-safe and undemanding, but it is easily outcompeted at feeding time and needs frequent small meaty offerings; very small ornamental shrimp or newly hatched invert larvae may be eaten.

Environment
Requires a stable saltwater aquarium with plenty of live rock, caves, and shaded hiding places. Prefers tropical marine conditions with good water quality, gentle to moderate flow, and typical reef temperatures and salinity.
Behavior
Generally shy and most active at dusk and during the night. It prefers to hover near shelter and may hide during bright daylight. Can be kept singly or in compatible groups if adequate space and hiding places are provided.
