I wish I'd taken a before pic but I bought a used Red sea reefmat from my LFS and it was exposed to light on a display tank so it was really caked with algea and spirorid worms. I used RODI water with a scouring sponge to start and then a round with a steam cleaner filled with RODI water. It came out like this when I'd done.

That looks brand new! What steamer did you use?

I have a vax combination steamer and just used it handheld

Dang that calc build-up is intense! I usually soak stuff like that in vinegar for a bit and then scrub with a toothbrush. Anyone else tried that? Makes cleaning a lot easier before setting up a new tank!

+1 on Vinegar. It's what I've always used. The steam cleaner is a great idea, im gonna have to get one

50/50 vinegar and hot water soak for at least 30 min. Hard tooth brushes to scrub
