It's interesting that your alk if at a good high spot but you PH is still pretty low? How do you test your PH
I know I can’t seem to figure out my pH. I have screen mesh lids and two wave makers with dual return outputs so air flow shouldn’t be a problem. I live in Arizona so I’m able to keep my windows open for fresh air a few hours a day. Increased my alk/cal a little to see if it would go up. But it just won’t budge. I guess my options are to accept it or get a CO2 scrubber?
Aquavitro Balance will raise your ph without raising your alk. That's your simplest option
I’ve toyed around with the idea of additives but I also don’t want to rely on them just for reasons of pH. Same with the CO2 scrubber tho. Having to replace media, etc. obviously I will if I need to but trying to figure out if there’s a different way I can make it so my tank will naturally keep pH. Even if I could get it slightly above 8 that would be nice.
Honestly it's not always possible depending on location and tank type to keep it at 8 naturally. I've looked at alot of tanks here on Reefbay that are reading 7.8 and this is likely a common issue. Whatever you decide to do I hope your reef thrives and your happy with the tank and the work it needs bc at the end of the day that's what counts!
Hmmm good to know. I’ll probably have to intervene if I want to keep it up.
What salt do you use? I just tested my parameters today as well.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a RODI system set up yet 😭 so can’t mix my own. I buy from 2 different LFS one uses Red Sea Coral Pro and the other uses FRITZ Reef Pro. What about you?
I use Aquaforest reef salt+. I mix it at 35 ppt salinity level and it gives me this result. I mix my saltwater with my r/o water in my kitchen.
My PH runs about an average of 8.1
Yeah I would really like to get something set up so I can start mixing my own. That would be ideal. Plus with my large tank I go through a lot of top off water as well.
What do you use for your top off water?
RODI from my LFS
No matter what, even after water changes or 7 days, my Hannah testers always put my calcium and magnesium high! Like 600 and 1590 high. I use Red Sea blue bucket
Working on getting my mag to around 1450 but I’m happy with the numbers
Looks pretty stable!
Working on it! Doesn’t help that aquaforest has been out so I’ve used 3 different brands of salt in the last month but we’ll probably keep the alk around that 9.6 mark, drop the calcium to 450-460 and keep trying to bump up the magnesium 75mls a day

This reminds me that I need to test my water today haha
How often do you test? I have my app set up to remind me every 7 days but sometimes I just feel like I’m doing it more often if I have downtime.
I try to once a week. But honestly once my tank hit the 2Y mark it was pretty much on auto pilot and I’d test once every month or so (which ended up causing some minor issues haah). I just finished moving my tank a few days ago so getting back into rhythm of once a week.
