From 🇮🇹 Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had a passion for aquariums, especially marine aquariums. I’ve always been fascinated by the technical side of aquarium keeping: the sump, the equipment, the entire electrical system behind an aquarium, and all the plumbing involved, including the sump, return pipes and drain pipes. I’ve always been fascinated by this amazing marine world. 🌊🐠🪸

🐠🪸 My First Marine Aquarium – DIY Reef Project

My first marine aquarium, now running for 6 months! I’m learning everything on my own and personally designed and built the sump, modified the cabinet, and installed the entire electrical system myself, including internal lighting, three protected power outlets, circuit breakers and an electricity consumption monitor.

Equipment includes two AI Hydra 32 HD lights, a Bubble Magus skimmer, Jebao pumps, a 100 W heater, refugium, bubble trap, DIY automatic top-off and sensors, plus 35–40 kg of live rock.

Currently home to 16–17 fish, crabs, a shrimp, a sea urchin and snails.

🌊 My dream is to create a beautiful reef full of colorful corals. I’m still learning, so any advice is welcome! 🙏🪸

Need help with my Sarcophyton leather coral

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice about my Sarcophyton leather coral.

It hasn’t opened or extended its polyps for about a month. The coral is still soft to the touch and moves naturally with the water flow, but green patches that look like algae are starting to grow on its surface.

I’ve noticed that a film forms on the top of the coral. I gently removed it once, but it seems to be forming again.

All my other corals nearby are doing well, but this Sarcophyton still hasn’t opened.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What could be causing this, and what would you recommend I do to help it recover?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
