Follow up to last question. I have a kleins butterfly in the 55, seems small for him but he’s been there for about two months and seems happy. I wasn’t aware that butterflies love to nip at corals. I currently have no corals in the tank, but want to add them soon once the parameters are where I’m comfortable with. What are some corals that would go well in the 55 without the Klein potentially nipping at them. I really like soft corals, but I’m unsure with the butterfly. What are some recommendations?

My butterfly is decent no nipping yet. I just make sure he’s well fed. When I was researching I read it’s mainly lps and occasionally zoas 🤷‍♂️

Klein’s Butterflies definitely have that reputation for nipping so I’ve found softies like zoas or mushrooms tend to do better since they’re less tempting than colorful LPS polyps. Also making sure he’s super well fed helps keep him off corals. Maybe start with some hardy mushrooms and see

Klein’s can be tricky with softies since they often nip at the polyps. I’ve had luck with tougher soft corals like leather corals or some mushrooms since they’re less tempting to nip. Feeding your butterfly well definitely helps reduce nipping too. What kind of flow and lighting do you have

I have two g5 smatfarm lights. It’s about 500gph going through the sump, and I have two powerheads in the display. Not to sure on the gph of the powerheads though. Ones much larger than the other.

Sounds like you’ve got decent flow going! Just keep an eye on spots where flow might be too strong or dead, Klein

A lottt of people have recommended mushrooms so I’ll probably start there
